Lynyrd Skynyrd ~ Signature Licks with Guitar teacher Greg Koch
Page Three

Its a very well done guitar lesson however. First the band plays the song then he breaks down his guitar part which sometimes incorporates licks from all three guitarists. There is flat picking, hybrid picking, slide guitar and even pedal steel type licks too. We hear talk of the famous major pentatonic scale bandied about and used repeatedly in various neck positions. Major is more rock and Minor more Blues. Hip Hop is minor a lot of times. That's not a sad sound is it? Anyway you need to know the difference - its the third of the scale. Minor or major thirds invert to major and minor sixths. All the inversions add up  to 9: 2nds and 7ths, fifths and fourths.

Now some of these songs I am in the mood for and some not. So this will surely be a guitar purchase you come back to agin' and agin' also making a nice present. I recommend it providing you are a fan of the band not as a stand alone learn guitar method. This will augment the basics not teach them to you. Greg teaches semi-advanced and advanced guitar techniques. But its not written down for you to see on paper.

There is no pamphlet or .PDF file but Greg tells us we can purchase (major credit cards accepted) from Hal Leonard publications web site the written TAB or chart or whatever. I would definitely buy this If I was a Lynyrd Skynyrd fan and I am and I did but a pamphlet would have let me recommend it with less reservation to beginning guitar students. So I don't recommend this one for rank beginners. Some little part of this guitar lesson is 'easy' like the Intro to Sweet Home Alabama but most of its advanced. None of which will stop a true guitar slingin' Johnny Reb from making the purchase! Greg Koch doesn't make bad guitar lessons just advanced ones.
